Annoying Teams (31/07/2013 15:13)

What I like about ML is that it is not based on real teams or real players, and that you have full creative freedom upon your team, its logo, and the players. You don't buy a player because he's Gareth Bale, you buy him because he has good stats, good performance, and you feel that he's the ideal player for you. Sadly, some people are not able to take advantage of this creative freedom and bore the community with something unoriginal or stupid. This rant is about the top 5 things I hate about managers in ML.

1. Real Teams

We get it that you're a fan, but I see a real team name all the time, so often that there are several of them in only one department. And you can't say that no exact same names can be applied, because there are so many ways of getting around that: adding Football Club or FC, adding a year, a random letter, or even numbers instead of letters (which annoys me the most) to be frank. It's your chance to create, or have someone help you come with a team that does not result in "your search matches more teams". Variety is a delight!

2. Real Team Logos

Even if people manage to come up with something original for a name, it is not rare that I am in a division where three of the crests are the same. It's annoying and I get an urge to see those teams relegated. But of course, they would be ironically replaced by teams with the same logo.

3. Bad Parodies

There are bad parodies and ok parodies of a club. But if you want to parody the name, think of a joke that is still funny the day after you come up with it. Not so easy, but I've seen examples that work. And if the joke works, go further with the logo. Changing wording in the original logo is not a good parody, and you need to find a way to make an original logo that reminds of the real team's logo. It's not easy and maybe I couldn't do it, but at least I am aware of that.

4. Nonsense Words in Team Names

Many teams have something wrong going on in their title. The word "manager", for example, has little place in a team name. Is that team a manager of another team or what is the logic of this inception? Also, what is it with teams that have "strikers" in their titles? How do the midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers playing there feel? Are they even hired in those teams? To conclude this chapter, we have the "all stars" teams. All I can say about that is that it sounds like a team whose players meet once a year in a very relaxed manner, to play and sell t-shirts. Of course, there are many others but these three are the most annoying that I come across every day.

5. ALL CAPS TEAMS

You're not special, so shut your mouth and change your team name to lower case or burn in the lower leagues! Attention horse!

Managing a team in ML is a huge opportunity to express yourself and gain popularity as you climb the ranks towards the first division. Don't waste it!

So annoying the teams with real team name and real team logo. But you have the nickname of a real player, Adrian Mutu. This doesn't annoy you? :)
