I guess this is what Florentino Perez, new chairman of Real Madrif, had in mind when he (or any other member of R.M.) and Cristiano Ronaldo finished contract talks... After paying Man Utd 94 million euro's, Madrid and Ronaldo talked about what he would earn, bonuses, etc... He signed a 6 year contract (well, officialy it's going to be signed on July 6th), earning a neat 13 million euro's a year... That's 13 with 6 nil's.: 13.000.000 (Note for Dutch readers in particular; Minister Plasterk made a regulation for TV-presenters to no earn more then 181.000 a year...)... There's also a release clause in his contract... He can leave any minute, that is, if any club is willing to pay... 1.000.000.000 euro's (that's right, 1 billion euro's)...
Proposterous, isn't it?
On the other hand, we may have to thank Florentino Perez for buying 3 players so far, for a neat amount of 174 million euro's... The clubs getting this money, now have money to spend on new players themselves, resulting (usually) in getting the best players from minor clubs... They will buy players, to fill up their squad again, from even smaller clubs... and in the end, the smallest teams have to promote youth to go on, and this will get a new generation into professional football...
Hallelujah Perez!!! (Please, take this with a pinch of salt - I'm not all too serious here)
