Champions League... 28-09 Update! (27/09/2006 11:30)

27-09-2006:

Yesterday, Tuesday new matches had been played for the first round in the Champions League. 16 goals were scored yesterday, of which nearly 38% (6 goals) in one match. Real Madrid finally showed a bit what they can be up to, by defeating Dinamo Kiev 5-1, with 2 goals scored by Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy. This was very nice for him, because he just became father a day or 2 before the match. Also, Ronaldo made his come back after a long period of injury.

Here are the results of the last matches en the new tables:

Group E:

28-09-2006:

Yesterday, Wednesday I failed to watch all CL matches... After just watching half an hour of Bordeaux - PSV I had enough... Gosh, it was so boring! So, I started doing other things and I told myself I would watch the results this morning. And so I did!
I noticed that I was right with my predictions for 4 out of 8 matches, once more a bad result ;)
This is what I wrote yesterday:

"Fixtures for tonight (Wednesday):
(next to each fixture, I will name the club who will win tonight, according to me that is ;))
                                                                  Guess:                     Real:
Werder Bremen - FC Barcelona                 Barcelona                *draw*
Levski Sofia - Chelsea                               Chelsea                    Chelsea

Internationale - Bayern München              Internationale           Bayern
Spartak Moscow - Sporting Lissabon         *draw*                       *draw*

Bordeaux - PSV                                        *draw*                       PSV
Liverpool - Galatasaray                             Liverpool                  Liverpool

Shakhtar Donetsk - Olympiakos P.             *draw*                      *draw*
Valencia - AS Roma                                 AS Roma                  Valencia

Well, anyway, here are the results and tables:

Group A:
Werder Bremen - Barcelona: 1-1
Leski Sofia - Chelsea: 1-3

1 Chelsea 2 2 0 0 6 5 - 1
2 Barcelona 2 1 1 0 4 6 - 1
3 Werder Bremen 2 0 1 1 1 1 - 3
4 Levski Sofia 2 0 0 2 0 1 - 8

That's tough: 8 goals against, in 2 matches for Levski Sofia :o

Group B:
Internationale - FC Bayern München: 0-2
Spartak Mosciw - Sporting Lissabon: 1-1

1 Bayern München 2 2 0 0 6 6 - 0

Yay for the Dutchmen! Keep it going lads!

1 Liverpool 2 1 1 0 4 3 - 2

Finally, some statistics:

  • 3 players scored 3 goals in 2 matches: Fernando Morientes (Liverpool), Louis Saha (Man. Utd.) and Didier Drogba (Chelsea). Suprisingly enough, all these three strikers play for an English club.
  • The Top-3 all-time scorers in the Champions League are: 1) Raúl (Real Madrid) 53 goals; 2) Ruud van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid) 45 goals; 3) Thierry Henry (Arsenal) and Andrey Shevchenko (Chelsea) 42 goals
  • The Top-3 all-time played matches in CL are: 1) Raúl (103 matches); 2) Roberto Carlos (101); 3) David Beckham (98). All these three players play for Real Madrid.
  • A sort of table:
                                                                                                                                       Played:             Won:          Draw:        Lost:          Points:
    1 Real Madrid 120 66 25 29 223

pictureI saw Internationale against Bayern... Although you were wrong in your guess I think Internationale played just as good or better until their second player got sent off (Grosso), which btw was wrong in my opinion (as then Scholl should have got sent off for his unnecessary scissor tackle).
