14-09-2006:

Wow! Wasn't it great watching some matches yesterday! Dutch TV broadcasted Man.Utd vs Celtic and what a fantastic match that was!  With Dutch players at both sides (Edwin van der Sar - Man Utd & Jan Vennegoor of Hesseling - Celtic) it was interesting for the Dutch fans to see the match of course!
Just as I did with the groups and matches of Tuesday, I will give you the results and tables of Wednesday:

Group E:
Dinamo Kiev (Ukr) - Steaua Bucarest (Rom): 1-4
Ol. Lyon (Fra) - Real Madrid (Esp): 2-0

Group H:

4 AEK Athens 1 0 0 1 0 0 - 3

Yesterday I wrote the following:
"So far, the topscorer of this competition is Fernando Morientes (Valencia), who scored 3 goals against Olympiakos. I guess Valencia is rather happy they bought him from Liverpool befor this season started.

Today, Wednesday, another 8 matches will be played; which are:

AC Milan (Ita) - AEK Athens (Gre)
Hamburger SV (Ger) - Arsenal (Eng)
Man. Utd. (Eng) - Celtic (Sco)  This match is named as "the Battle of Britain" by many British inhabitants.
Anderlecht (Bel) - Lille (Fra)
FC Porto (Por) - CSKA Moscow (Rus)
Ol. Lyon (Fra) - Real Madrid (Esp)
FC Kopenhagen (Den) - Benfica (Por)
Secretly, as a supporter/fan of AFC Ajax, I hope Benfica will defeat the team that beat "MY" club in the previous round...
Dinamo Kiev (Ukr) - Steaua Bucarest (Rom)

I think, if I had to make a bet on which teams would win today, I would say: AC Milan, Arsenal, Man. Utd., Lille, FC Porto, Ol. Lyon, Benfica and Dinamo Kiev. But as I am not a fortune teller or a see-er, I have no clue whether I am right or not... But we will see!

I hope you will all enjoy the matches tonight (IF you are going to watch any of them that is)!"

Well, after yesterday's matches I can say the following:

First of all, Fernando Morientes is still the only player who scored 3 goals; Nicolea Dica (Steaua Bucarest) and Louis Saha (Man Utd) both scored 2 goals in their first CL-match.

Secondly, I only had 5 out of 8 winners right, which is a bit dissappointing to me actually... AC Milan, Arsenal, Lille, Lyon and Man Utd did win; but Porto, Benfica played draw and Dinamo Kiev actually lost (big time). And therefor Benifca wasn't able to fullfill my wish, which was beating Copenhagen... A bit dissappointing as well ;)

Anyway, the first matches of the first CL round were sometimes exiting, sometimes boring... Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the following matches which will be on 26-09 and 27-09!

Talk about the Sporting 1-0 Inter! :p

Actually, it was unexpected. Sporting's team is basically all youth players that came from Sporting's Academy (one of the best in Europe, by the way). And yet the were able to almost dominate the match! 1-0 was little for what they did!

Still, I think we're going to loose when we go to Italy :S

Good work with the blog!
