Two in a Row (04/07/2012 13:21) |
Department Cup finals of Season 89 just finished, and as everyone expected, Hindustan Warriors are the champions again. Having won the league comfortably and cleanly without a single loss, it was a great achievement for the club. "We have done the double twice in a row now, all credit goes to the manager and the players", said the club chairman. After being promoted from Div 6 last season, it was assumed that the club will have some difficulty in staying up. But to everyone's surprise, the players were in superb form - especially Vytautas Zitinskas who is contender for the award of department top scorer. Players also improved in quality over the season, and the young 17yr old Q65 goalkeeper Brian Saintaubin who was promoted start of this season is now Q70 in just one season. Every player has improved on an average of 2 or more Q. Division 4 is never going to be easy, especially with teams of far better quality, but Hindustan Warriors have every chance of staying up if they play to their best. The players need to be focussed and committed, and who knows we can even surprise one or two of the big guns there. Some older experienced players in the team might retire at the end of the season, and if that happens replacements must be found out quickly to ensure the team balance. Finances should not be a problem as it stands, with enough money in the bank to buy 3-4 really good players. The player awards session is going to take place tonight, and 3 or 4 of the club's players are contenders for the department awards. Hope that those awards will be a big morale boost for everyone to perform their best next season. |
