Going from Season 27 to Season 28 <--Back
pic
Once again, the time has come, and we are looking at another change of seasons.
Season 27 is nearly over, and season 28 is looming with a number of new improvements and goodies.

When?
On Thursday morning, after the training at 09:00, the servers go down for season-change.
Some time before Friday morning, the game is available again, with the changes uploaded and ready to go.
Then there are cups during the weekend, and a training-camp on Sunday afternoon at 18:00.
The season itself starts with training on Monday morning at 09:00 and the first league match at 15:00 the same day.

Changes and improvements

1: We are proud to introduce a number of new leagues

* Australia
* Croatia
* Brazil
* Italy
* Malaysia
* Turkey
* Netherlands
* Belgium
* Denmark

As soon as these new leagues reach a certain number of playing teams, they will get their own forum if their language is different from one of the existing forums. Please see point 9 for details about language-forums.

2: The community-portal is now fully translatable, and has been translated to a number of languages. This includes all sign-up emails, the front-page and the pages on the portal. The language seen is based on the browser-settings and will hopefully make it easier to join the game regardless of language.

3: Our language-system has been improved to match the ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 standard (which, to be honest, doesn't mean a lot to anyone but me)

4: All signup emails have been modified to include important information in regards to the game and the rules. Also, we now send out an email to you if your login-info us ever updated, to avoid new users changing their usernames and passwords and not remembering their changes.

5: Various discussions around the transfer-system and the economic balance in the game have spawned a few changes:
- Buying a new player will now reduce your team-stats to reflect a change in the team.
-- This has been introduced to emulate the fact that the new player is not used to train with the team, and must be trained to get up to speed. The actual drop is 1 stat-point per player purchased, but only for stats above 70.
- Your Chairman will no longer allow you to sack a good youth-player due to his potential
-- This has been implemented to avoid fake signups who fire their good youths so other teams can pick them up quickly
- A new Agent Fee has been implemented. 0.5 % - 3 % of any accepted bids will go to the players Agent, depending on the amount.
-- This has been implemented to help with the economic balance in the game and to prevent inflation
- A new tax has been implemented, named "Fortune Tax". All teams with more than 100.000.000 in their accounts (in cash) must pay 0.5 percent, of the amount above 100 millions, in tax.
-- Again, this is to help balance the economy

All of the above changes will, if we are correct, help tp prevent "insane prices", help to prevent "major resellers" (where some teams manage to pick up 10 youths in one season only to sell them off with enormous profits), to prevent cheating, and to balance the economy. These are as such some steps towards making the transfer-system work more as intended. We are still aware that the process might need further improvements, and we are not "finished" with improving it.

6: Fixed invalid minimum_bid settings

7: We now support
for use of fixed width text in forums, messages etc

8: Optimised Contact-list and Message popup to improve speed and reduce load

9: Tooltips added on the forums page to describe the Display-setting
- Very few people have chosen to "hide" forums to avoid them cluttering up the list of Last Updated Threads on the General-page. You can use this feature on the Forums page, and hopefully more people will be made aware of it now.

10: Critical security fix sorted out 2 places in the game (no worries though)

11: Uploaded player-pictures can now be deleted by the owner.

12: You may now only accept 1 open friendly every 5 minutes (in stead of every 3 minutes) to distribute them more evenly and fairly, and reduce the massive page-load caused by hitting the F5 button repeatedly.

13: To be able to handle more traffic due to the increasing number of players, more bandwidth has been ordered and should be installed within a few days now. As far as we know, this installation will not cause any downtime on our live service.

14: A number of smaller fixes have been applied.

15: A number of small optimisations not worth mentioning have been applied.

16: Some admin-only features have been improved to support multi-league management of the forums.

Good luck to everyone in the new season, and thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards
Spinner

pictureOnce again, great job Spinner. The changes to the economy are great and really needed!

Btw, I`ve got a couple of small questions

- will the fortune tax be taken into action this season change or the next one?
- and will it be calculated before or after taxes?

- how badly is the loss in team training? (e.g if my attack is at 90, should I expect it to drop to 89, 88, 80 or what?)
- and does the loss also appear when you sack/sell a player?

pictureseriously..

this is going to change the fundament of the game....

I was looking forward to next season... but now my entire goal of the season changed over night Red Face

I've saved up some cash to spend on youngsters next season, but that will ruin my team training.

I hate the new transfer system, but I'll cope with the team training loss... but the agents fee is just rediculous.
It will hurt newbie teams more than high profile teams.
The difference between 100 and 90 mil isn't that big and prolly compensated with credits
Specially if the team gets 2mil per home game

but the difference between 10 or 9 milion when you make a mere 300k per home game.. that's where the agents are going to hurt

but those are my 2 cents

pictureGreat news! Banana

Love the taxes, love the team stats reduction, love non sacking of youth players. !
Let's build a team, not run an investment company.

I think 1 open friendly every 10 minutes is a mistake however, people can't be/wan't be online all the time...

By : runardo10 minutes????   17:41 03/10 2007
pictureBy waiting 10 minutes we must be online all the time to get a free friendly. If we send out a free challenge, there will be a lot challenges to pick and we must wait a long time before we can send out another one.

Not good

but take my point of view here

I've had a team of oldsters... so renewing my team will make those carefully trained up team-training, back to zero.

So in fact I'm getting double punshed here. Losing and all the players I had, and my team stats that would make my youngsters acceptable in a decent league...

By : E.T.?I love that game   18:52 03/10 2007
picture10 min. ??? I must spend 1 hour just for accepting friendlies?
I will push the F5 button 1 hour not 20 min. like before.

The transfer sistem is ok (will ruin Kit Pausa ) but we must know how badly will be affect the team training if we buy a Q69 17y.o. or a Q74 17y.o.

nothing about the National Teams and Champions League.

By : SinclareMostly good.   19:20 03/10 2007
pictureSeems to me that most changes have been well considered. The taxes are a must to stabilize the economy, whether 10% is a tad too much, it might be, but can be easily tweaked if need be. Thanx for not letting ppl put more players up for sale aswell, was afraid you guys might cave and do that what with all the whining on the boards

However, seems to me that the 10min limit on friendlies is a somewhat quickfix, that is not thought through too well. If the problem is server load, why not spread out the match simulations around the clock a bit more? After moving too alot of diferent national leagues, this might also be a good way to accomodate the different timezones. Then all european leagues + the international can stay on the current setting, all american leagues get another, all asian another, and so on. For all I know this aint possible in this environment, but it works well in another game I play, and I see no reason why it should't work here aswell. This cant be done in a flash though, but something to consider perhaps?

With 10 mins, Im afraid we will loose some of the playerbase, probably not a noticable amount, but I should think all changes are made to keep and increase the amount of players, so even a insignificant drop, showes that it might not be a very good solution!

By : DonostiaFour things   19:32 03/10 2007
pictureFour things... i don´t like the norwegian tax rules... the agent fee is 10% very high for instance Zidane agents three split on 7.5 millon when he was sold from Juventus to Real Madrid. Waitng 10 minutes makes the game slower... must be another way to do this... Anyway SETS will be more important than ever with this change!!! And 2% of your income over 100 million... well feels lika a penalty being "rich"... 100 million = 2 million, 200 million = 4 million, 300 millon = 6 million each year... dosen´t seem much at first sight but in the long run it´s generates away lots of money... maybe there will be less inflation in the game, with the new rules, but will there be more player-transfers?

By : Biker07Looking good! except . . .   19:58 03/10 2007

I am liking the look of pretty much all of the new changes except from the 10 MINUTE rule for open challenges, i mean i agree 3 minutes is not long enough but i would say about 5 MINUTES would sort the problem out, but 10 minutes will really make the game worse PLEASE CHANGE to 5

By : Alekswhat about the champions league?   20:23 03/10 2007
pictureDo you know when are you going to implement this new competition? And in which rounds will be played?

By : nowlzAgent fees?? hmmm?   20:36 03/10 2007
pictureSurely if agent fees are set at 10% of sale value, then a player sold at 100mill this season like a Q78+ 17y/o would instead just be sold at 110mill next season. to compensate for the loss due to the fee.
You have to remember its not a buyers market, and the sellers (usually the excessively rich clubs) dictate the prices.
if the selers say it will cost us an extra 10mill due to the new agent fee, then thats the price people will pay. Simply because they want the best talent.

i believe the new admin fee will just increase inflation of prices. not reduce them.

surley it would be better to stagger the level of agent fee paid depending on the value of the sale, exactly like the current tax system in place.

By : SpinnerFeedback   20:53 03/10 2007
pictureI knew some of these changes would not be received positively by some players, but I would not have implemented them had I not been convinced of their "long term effects".

I understand that some teams in special situations, like Krogzars team, wanting to replace half of his team in one season, will be hit hard by this, but with all due respect, it is only closer to realism that your team-stats take a hit due to this. However, you are not reduced to 0 at all, I am not that daft
Assuming an average of 75 in the team-stats, you will drop to 73 buying 1 new player.
After buying 2 players, you will be left at 71 and buying 3 players will leave you at 69. From there on, you will drop 1 point per player you buy until you reach 60. then you will not go further down.
The real calculation is not based on the average though, but each stat individually, so the stat at 59 will never drop due to this, while the stat at 95 will drop faster.
This also means, the sooner in the season you finish your purchasing, the better, relatively speaking.
But yes, if you plan on buying 15 players in one season, which is an absurd number and highly unrealistic, you will drop down to about 60 in each of your team-stats. However, that said, it doesn't take that long to get back up though, it's a fast climb back to 75...

The same is true for the 10 minute limit on accepting Open Challenges. There is no reason to hit F5 before the 10 minutes have passed. And the distribution will be more fair this way, there is no doubt of that. And we had to get away from the case of "whoever causes the most load gets the highest number" , we have no intention of rewarding people creating excessive load
Sinclaire, you can't play friendlies during league-round simulation anyway, so that doesn't matter. And the load itself was not the primary concern, the reward of loading and unfair distribution were more important. We did try a "waiting-list" implementation, but discovered some highly unwanted consequences from it. So the 10 minute might be seen as a quick-fix, but only since we spent much time on an alternative that was cancelled after revising the effects.

As I announced earlier this season, Champions League etc have all been delayed, with no exact timeframe, due to other pressing matters and the need to prioritize. We also saw that with so many new league entering, we wanted to wait until all leagues have a full top division, which will still take some seasons.

Introducing taxes is never a "popular idea", but we really need to do it. Everyone agrees the prices on young players have spiraled somewhat out of control, and the economy is unbalanced due to the fact that there is an unlimited number of fans out there willing to come to any and all games you play.

All these changes will make ManagerLeague either more fair, better balanced or more realistic, and will have many positive long-term effects, even though they may seem harsh just now.

By : SpinnerFee   21:00 03/10 2007
picture

i believe the new admin fee will just increase inflation of prices. not reduce them.

If you think only 1 season ahead, then I say, yes, maybe you are correct. But the effect here, is that 10% of any money involved in transfers, which is a considerable amount every season, will be "removed" from the game. If this had been implemented this season, a staggering 15.765.044.022 $ would have left the game, which is quite a lot of money every season. Hence, money will be worth more and inflation is slowed or stopped.

By : SinclareHehe   21:04 03/10 2007
pictureMy thought with that idea is that it creates alot of different times to send/accept open friendlies. Now, everyone hits refresh after the league match because thats when people choose to be online. When the matches are played at 3-4 different times, that would mean people would have different times of which they hit the refresh button Atleast it could mean you wouldn't have to set the "wait-timer" as high as 10 mins. And ofc, it might please alot of the players to have a schedule more to there liking.

As I said, it's not all about the "faster" aspect, it has to do with the distribution more than anything else.

picturei will probably quit but still; why PUSH rich teams instead of all teams because of inflation?
thats just unfair. We choose to pusish rich teams because its too much money in this game? Thats kind of stupid. Why dont let the marked choose what the right price for a player should be? Right now the price for 17 year olds is too high and price for high Q players is too low Winky

this is bullocks.. the main reason i hit F5 so many times is cause every time i try to accept an open friendly i fail so i need to reload the page to see if there is a new friendly...
till there actually is one and after i accept a friendly i do something else for 3 minutes and come back for the next.

maybe the waiting list needs a revisit from some fresh minds. also why isn't it possible to make the page show friendlys as they come and not only on load of the entire page , more like the gmail page

pictureFor people like me who cannot buy credits,free friendlies is the only way we can train our players,except the normal training.Now we will have to wait for 3 days just to get 5 friendlies done because we can't live in ML,we have our own lives too.3 minutes were fine.If you always got the open friendly,then you will be done with your 100 free friendlies by the 10 round and leaving the friendlies for the other people.5 minutes would have been better or maybe 4.I had big hopes too for next season but now they are crushed. Shouldnt we vote weather we want a 10 min wait or a 4 min wait?After all if there are a lot of teams who feel they never get the friendly then they will win the "10 min wait" case.So what do you say Mr.Spinner?

Your exactly right, due to Australia's and im sure other countries lack of internet speed or even just individual lack of speed people struggle near the beginning of the season to pick them up and so do i, BUT people take their 100 early then by nearing the end of the season everyone else can pick up theirs

Now the wait is 10 minutes thats more than 3 times what it is now and as someone else mentioned earlier as well people who put them out will be DISCOURAGED to do so because people maybe can't take them in time especially when there are not many people online

A little hesitant with the Agent Fee but nice work with everything else

pictureSocialism has reached ML, why do rich teams have to pay a fortune tax?

You say you want to reduce inflation, but when you add an agent fee and a fortune tax you're forcing managers to buy and increase prices.

By : SpinnerFeedback   23:32 03/10 2007
pictureVery nice getting all this feedback actually.
I shall give some things a bit more thought then and perhaps reconsider a thing or two.
Admittedly, there are issues here I had not considered carefully enough, that is for sure

pictureworst changes in ml history...must be getting close to time to retire my managerial hat
we already lose stats over the off season and now a way to lose more...great just what i wanted...lol
i think the team training stats drop should kick in after say 2 player purchases a season if at all as new teams trying to build team training to catch up to older managers will be punished for buying players to replace the Q58 players on their team they start with

70 minutes it will take to accept 7 opens IF i can actually accept one every 10 minutes which is impossible at any time of the day, alot of managers just dont have that time to spare...the the ml addicts get bettter the others with lives get left behind(My name is Jake and im an addict)

By : kjekspfft!   00:08 04/10 2007
pictureWe are still playing bots in the international league. The transfer system is not working wery well. The game is getting more expensive and time consuming.

This game is getting worse every season.

By : tomamostoEverything is good   00:19 04/10 2007
pictureI have been playing for a while but this season I started finding out about the friendlies the free agents. And everything was about been really fast and lucky and I hate it. With the stat sreduction the players are for who really need them and not for the ones making business. I have seen a player change a team five times this season for more price each time, crazy. Good job don´t change it.

By : NeilosSome good, some bad...   00:32 04/10 2007
pictureI don't like the team training drop idea - if this was counted by not dropping team training over season change it'd be less bad, but still not good.

I love the no sacking good youths. Great idea

Agent fee will just push prices higher still in the short term, so a huge thumbs down for that. 10% just seems too high.

Fortune tax? No real opinion, as I'm poor

10 minutes for an open friendly seems excessive, and especially harsh on those who don't have a lot of time to spend on ML.

So a mixed sort of reaction from me, but overall a negative one

By : Jointehmm   00:40 04/10 2007
pictureMost updates seems reasonable. Especially the one with team training drops. The fortune tax seems kind of harsh though. 1% would be better maybe? And 10% for the agents, drop it to 5%. And change it from 3 to 5 minutes regarding training matches.

By : MagpieJust a tweak maybe?   01:16 04/10 2007
pictureAgree with most spinner but i think only the morale (or teamwork/understanding) should be affected with a new player, after all the player still has his qualities (although in my eyes the idea is both good and realistic for more new players) .If ,say, Birmingham City bought Ronaldhino it would boost alot of players in the team. If they bought 6 new players they (probably) wouldn't know what to do as a team.
I am a little aprehensive that ppl are just going to up the price to compensate for the agent fee.
Maybe a "tweak" is also needed on the "sack a good youth" rule as well. say, you must have 2 keepers left after sale, 4 strikers etc. i don't want to be lumbered with a youth i don't want. Or maybe you could implement the "youth choice system" that's been bashed about before Everyone's happy.
Sorted.
p.s
don't listen to those who threaten to leave every season they don't get their way. I've played since season 1 and can't remember the last time i got my full quota of open friendlies. Winky

By : SpinnerThank you   01:25 04/10 2007
pictureThank you everyone who take time to comment here.
I have revised the updates and have made some changes.

First of all, I was under the impression that the player prices had increased much more on average than is actually the case. At the moment, the price on players is increasing by approximately 4% on average per season. This is a bit, but not nearly as much as I actually though.

Second of all, I had not considered all the implications when it comes to time-consumption and open friendlies. If it is anything we do NOT want, it is to increase the amount of time required to play ML, quite the other way around. This is a difficult balance though.

Third, I had not foreseen the way people renew their teams in a practical fashion, and so those with a coming generation-shift would be punished a lot more than they should be.

I can only say I am sorry for the poor research, and I am glad I was informed in time, and that people voice their opinions.

The modifications are thus:
- You can accept open friendlies every 5 minutes, not 10. If this has no effect, we may go back to 3 minutes again or rethink alternatives. Keep in mind though, this is difficult due to the 5,5:1 in people wanting / offering these, so there is no solution that will suit everyone.

- The Agent Fee has been reduced significantly, and turned into a sliding scale to protect the smaller sales:
In sales under 10.000.000, the agent will require 0.5 %
10.000.001-25.000.000 , the agent will require 1.0 %
25.000.001-50.000.000 , the agent will require 1.5 %
50.000.001-75.000.000 , the agent will require 2.0 %
75.000.001-100.000.000 , the agent will require 2.5 %
More than 100.000.000 -> 3%

- The "Fortune Tax" has been reduced too, to just 0.5% of the amount above 100 millions.

- Also, I have lowered the impact on the team-stats when buying new players to ease the introduction of this feature into the game. This means it will be increased in strength in later seasons, but now it will work like this:
A new player simply reduces your teamstats by 1, but only if the stat is higher than 70.

I will make the required changes in the announcement.

By : SpinnerMagpie   01:27 04/10 2007
pictureNo worries, I don't let people intimidate me to make changes.
However, some valid points were brought up, and I redid some calculations and discovered I had been wrong about some numbers.

More than 100.000.000 -> 3%

Much better now !!!

Im starting to like it ... lol

pictureDon't worry, you will promote easily then and fight other humans next season, consider this a good time to play friendlies, as you have less risk of not promoting.

By : MefistoMore youngsters   10:39 10/10 2007
pictureCould the scout be of better use? What if the scout also could pick up youngsters on the same level as the youthteam coach? I would love the report in the beginning of the season that said "Your scout has descovered a great argentinian talent that is now on trail for your team"

By : ML ChampionIs there any improvements??   15:46 29/10 2007
pictureI have read through all of your updates, and none of them helps improve the gameplay?!
Except for a few fixes on bugs and things like that, which i am very grateful for btwWinky

Overall i am not very happy with the changes that has been made, especially regarding taxes and agents fee because they who have worked up a great deal of money and worked hard for it, actually deserve it!!

I really hope there are some improvements next season....
