National League and Coming Features, Part I

I've decided it is time to shed some light on a few issues about coming features,
so you know what is taking time and what to expect over the next seasons.
National Leagues is a major part of it, of course, but there are PLENTY of other cool things to look forward to...

About National Leagues

We do get a lot of questions about this, like WHEN, WHICH NATIONS, HOW, WHAT and so on. I will try to explain the concept here.
The whole idea behind National Leagues is based on a few different things:
- The addition of "international events", like Champions League, Cup Winners Cup, and maybe even National Teams for The World Cup etc.
- Avoid adding divisions in the bottom as we grow, it isn't much fun playing in the 9th division!
- A multi-national setup is also closer to the real world of football

We do know there are many countries that do not have enough players to get a League of their own, we don't want leagues with 2 players in them, as I am sure you can understand. We have some countries that are certainly big enough, but a league should have at least 3-400 active managers to have some kind of decent competition. Keep in mind though, usually on a day to day basis, most of us compete with 15 others in the department we are in, and don't care so much about the "rest". But 3-400 is enough to fill the first 3 divisions at least, and is a decent base to stimulate further growth in the league. So far, Norway, Sweden, Romania, England, Portugal, Argentina and USA seems to be big enough for that, but I doubt ALL players from a region will move into their National League right away.

The conclusion now, is that we do not know exactly how many leagues we will begin with, but probably somewhere between 5 and 10.
Then we will create new leagues as the countries grow in the International League.

Lets jump straight to the WHEN-question then:
This update requires major upgrades to our system, which again means extensive testing of the various processes involved. In all honesty, this "will be ready when it is", but I can do a little better.
- Best-case scenario looks like this:
Testing goes well, and the servers can get the first update after this season. This does NOT mean you can move into a new league next season, BUT YOU GET TO SELECT WHICH LEAGUE YOU WISH TO BE IN IN THE SEASON AFTER THAT. This means, you can be playing your first season in a National League in Season 25.

- Probable-case scenario looks like this:
Testing finds many problems, and the servers must wait even longer to be updated. This would mean that there are no updates in the next season-change, and you can be playing your first season in a National League in Season 26.

- Worst-case scenario looks like this:
Testing finds that nothing works, and the servers must wait even longer to be updated. This would mean that there are no updates in the next 2 season-changes, and you can be playing your first season in a National League in Season 27.

I have to say we are still in good shape for the Best-case scenario, and testing has begun (only with me and a few admins, but we have started!).

International Events

Things like Champions League and other international events, will not come into play right away. We will not fill up the new leagues from Division 1 and down, we will begin in Division 2 or 3 (yet to be decided). This means there will be no League Champions for 2 couple of seasons, and therefore no Champions League etc. It is also good for us to get some more time working on this after the coming huge changes. So expect these to enter the game 2-3 seasons after National Leagues have been started.

How do we move into a National League when the time comes?
You will be able to choose this from the Ingame Preferences-page, and probably from the General page as well. Don't worry, you will see it when the time comes.

Even though we have yet not decided exactly which leagues will be available, and can not guarantee when we are 100% ready, but we are confident this will be the greatest change in the history of ManagerLeague.

"Are you splitting us??"
I do not think I am splitting the community by doing this. We will all use the same forums, we can buy and sell players with everyone, we can message who we want, and we can all play the same custom cups every weekend. Of course, we can challenge anyone to a friendly too, it makes no difference which league they play in. We will just be structured a bit different.

"Playing in a small league is not as much fun!"
There are 2 sides to this of course.
You could say that it is less fun playing with 1000 people than playing with 20.000, and I would agree, if that was the whole picture. However, you usually only play with 15 people, in your department.
The benefit is of course, that we will have a lot more players with a chance to win the League Championship. And I think everyone agrees it's more fun fighting it out in division 2 or 3 when compared to 5 and 6!
And since the friendlies, custom cups etc are still "global" as such, I don't think anyone will feel the "it's such a small league" feeling at all.
Noone complained about a boring game when we were 1000 playing it

Ok, enough about the National Leagues...What else can we look forward to?

I am not going to spill all the beans right away, but I can let you in on a few cool things.

A lot of new Facility Upgrades
You wanted it, well, you're going to get it!
Bigger stadiums, Extendable roof, Upgradeable Training Facilities, VIP-Boxes and more!

All in all, you can look forward to enough upgrades to keep you busy for 14 more seasons, even if you have completed all upgrades right now!

Player-awards!
Players will now receive awards, that stay with them until they hang their boots in the closet for good. Different kind of awards, like Best Goalie, Golden Boot award etc, 8 different kinds of awards, some for a department, some for a division and even a few "per league"!
And of course the Manager gets a little something from it too!

Higher sponsor payouts
The sponsor payouts have been increased a bit, more for the higher-div teams though!

Player development
Young players now learn a lot more from important games than before (like playoff-games, official cups etc) So trust your younglings with an important match, and they will learn much more than from a friendly!

These are SOME of the things you can look forward to when we are ready to go live with the next version, there are lots more

Looks amazing, I can't wait to play in the English national league or wherever I decide to play Only thing I'm worried about tho is: Higher sponsor payouts The sponsor payouts have been increased a bit, more for the higher-div teams though! If you increase the higher division payouts to even more than the lower divisions then it could create a split between the higher and lower and the difference between divisions could be higher. Apart from that it sounds like Manager League is going to be even better, awesome

	I believed that you (the ML-Staff) could add national leagues, but I never knew it would be so quick and at the same time with such good and improved add-ons. Great work, and that even one of my idea is added onto the game, makes me quite happy! Anyway, what I'm worried about is as Tompi said, the difference between poor and rich might get bigger, that on the other hand makes me somewhat worried. Anyway, great add-ons!

	It sounds cool to have an increased chance to win a league. But.. We have played for some years, and have build a team up in the divisions. What about us. Shall we just move to a 3rd or 4th division in a manager league just on random??

	i am from spain too. i would love having a national league for spanish teams. If there were not enough teams for a national league in spain, it would be good to create a 'Latin league', so in some seasons' time the teams could move to there recently created national league. 	Some really exciting changes there - good work! Some questions: How will teams be transfered into the national leagues from our current leagues - will it be based on basic team stats - the better a team is (higher Q players and higher team training stats) the higher division it goes in? Also, how will the national teams work? A player is voted to be manager of the national team for a season, then that player is free to chose any players of that nationality to be in the team? Or will the best players of a certain nationality be chosen automatically? If these questions can be answered in "National League and Coming Features, Part II", that would be great! Well done Spinner!

	Spinner can you post a list of all the countries, sorted by Country and # of ML players registrated from the same country, so we can know how many more players we need to be in the national league.Like, I'm from Mexico and I don't know how many Mexicans are playing ML, if we need just a few more player to have a national league or do we need to recruit 100 more.

	will small leagues play the same number of round than big ones? The best income comes from the stadium, i would not like to play in a small or medium league if i get only the income from 3 rounds... But it is very interesting =).

	Would teams that have no National league be able to join a national League of a country close to them? I also agree with Kop about the transfer price of some players. Say put a limit on or a pecentage above their value you can not exceed. Com'on on Aussie.

	These national leagues sounds brilliant! It will be much more fun when we are all at a higher level. A solution to the problem of filling up the different leagues could be to create "Asian League" and "South-American League" i.e. I'm also looking forward to the stadium possibilities, all tho maintainence is going to be a bitch. 	These changes are all shaping up to be very good indeed, Spinner... the new stadium upgrades are particularly exciting, but as someone from England, I'm sure we'll have enough teams to go into our own national league by the time they are implemented The new awards are sounding like great news as well. The game just got rather more interesting!
