Looking ahead towards next season and beyond <--Back
pic

Once again, it is time to look forward towards a new season, and also a little bit beyond.

There are plans brewing and improvements coming that you should know about, although some details are yet to be finalized.

From season 20 to season 21

The 20th season is steadily ticking towards its end (this Thursday morning) and as usual, this will mean the following schedule:

Thursday 09:00 - The last training takes place and the game goes into "change-season-mode".
At this time, you will not be able to access your team.
At some point between Thursday night and Friday morning, the game is once again open, and you will see that we have switched to the next season.
There are cups as usual this weekend.

On Monday March 26th, Season 21 kicks off with training at 09.00 and the first match at 15:00, and you will find a complete schedule for the season by then.

Improvements and changes
As always, we have tried to make requested changes and improvements to keep making the game better. Thanks to active players, there is no lack of suggestions, although some are rejected. We are growing faster and faster these days, which also dictates some of the changes we do, as we need to make sure our admins and moderators have the tools they require to help out in an efficient matter.

The list of changes for Next Season

GAME CHANGES
- Major translation updates to several languages
- ALL game-pages are now served as UTF-8 to be able to offer all special characters for other languages
- New icons added to the match-report to make it easer to read and more interesting
- Transfer-page has been split in 2: Search and Active Transfers
-- Transfer Search page now lists additional information: "Minimum"
--- "Minimum" is the minimum bid that will be either considered or accepted, based on a few things:
--- If the player has no club, the minimum amount you can bid for this player is his VALUE, as it is.
--- If the player has a team, and no amount has been specified in the "Ignore bids lower than" field for that player, you are allowed to bid a minimum of 70% of his value.
--- If the player has a team with a certain amount set in the "Ignore bids lower than" field, you will see this limit.
--- If there are bids on this player already, you will see the lowest possible bid you have to make in order to get the highest bid.
- Staff members will issue a warning to you when they have 10 rounds left of their contracts.
- The ranking-lists for Top Players and Top Youth Players have been altered
-- To be listed here, players must have played 65% of the regular league-games that have been played.
- Training-camps wll now REST players who are RESTING in stead of training individually.
- The ranking-lists for League Champions and League Cup Champions have been flipped to show the most recent winner on the top.
- ML-Mail: You can now delete all messages from the same sender with 1 click.
- More optimizations to increase performance during peak hours
- You can only accept 1 open challenge in 3 minutes to spread them around better.
- Bug-fix: In some cases, a wrong algorithm was used to simulate normal training with the help of a coach (rare occasions only)

PORTAL CHANGES
- Improvement to the support-system
- Portal pages now link to our new News RSS-feed
- Portal pages now link to our new Blogs RSS-feed
- Invisible layer (on our frontpage) with links to blogs and articles to let search-engines find content on our pages
- Article-comments may no longer be empty
- Login has been improved:
-- When you click Login, the input field for username is now active automatically
-- If you hit the ENTER-key while in the username-box, the focus is changed to the password-box.
-- If you hit the ENTER-key while focus is in the password-box, you will log in.
- Better handling of the 3 windows on the frontpage: You can bring either one to the front by clicking on the big buttons below the main image.
- New competition-type (You'll see, and hear!)

OTHER UPDATES
- Our forum-chief and moderators now have more tools available to help them perform their tasks and keep our forums nice and clean
- Our admins can now much easier deal with offensive uploaded content, like stadium-pictures, team-logos etc.
- A new WARNINGS-interface is now available to all admins / moderators to deal with minor issues that do not cause for closing of a team
- Moderators can now REMOVE a teams ability to post on the forums to deal with abuse and spam in a very clear fashion. For instance, you can be banned from posting for say 72 hours, or for good (!)
- Moderators can now access any and all department forums to help out with abuse there too.
- A number of other admin-only issues have been improved.

I hope these changes will aid us in our goal of becoming an even better game for us all to enjoy.

With that said, I wish to share a glimpse of an important upcoming change in ManagerLeague, which is National Leagues.

It has always been our intention of splitting up the big universal league we have today into more regional leagues, or countries if you wish. That said, there are many countries that do not have enough players yet to sustain their own league, and so we will probably make bigger regions for them to play in, like "South America", "Africa" and so on. Right now, Norway is certainly big enough to warrant a league for themselves, as is Sweden and Romania. By the time we are ready, so is probably United Kingdom as well, allthough we might see USA & Canada sharing one league.
There is no point rushing at us with questions about this yet, because the road to National League is quite long, and will take a lot of time to implement. This will of course mean can benefit from International Cups (like Champions League / Cup-winner-cups etc), and some day even National Teams in a World Championship. It will also mean we will enhance the transfer-system to include a more international system, with emphasis on player origin etc. I can also reveal to you that there are other new and exciting things in the pipeline in regards to this, but I am not going to spill all the beans just yet.

Again, there is no point hammering us with suggestions, ideas or questions about these issues, as we will not comment on something we do not have the details about ourselves.

We have several great things ahead, but then there is also a consequence to be mentioned here: This will mean that we are making deep and profound improvements to the game that will prevent us from serving you a set of enhancements every season for the next couple of months. There is no way these things can fall into place in one month, and so you will have to wait a while for these (and more) improvements.

I hope you are all half as excited as I am about these things to come, and that you will stick with us to find out how they turn out.

Right now, you should all start thinking about the end of this season, and the season-change on Thursday, and what kind of fantastic youth-player you may have coming.

Congratulations to Blackpool for running away with the title once again and good luck to both Vartdal FK and Sparta Rotterdam in the coming League Cup finals.

Don't forget the HUGE free cup on Wednesday (starting 12:00) and the training-camp at 18:00.

Cya on the other side (of the season-change!)

Yours truly
Spinner

It might be you've decided to not implement it, but otherwise I'm very pleased

picturetwo or three season ago, the friendlies page reloaded like in 2,3 seconds for me, now it can take upto 15 seconds , and i know that there isn't something wrong with my computer, so this last two season i couldn't play open challenges. i can't buy credz, so it's really important for my team to play "frebbies". so i kinda like this new open challenges rule.

i don't like the nationa leagues, i like to be mixed up with people from all over the world

By : Evans_LoiReyeah   03:58 20/03 2007
pictureyeah..there are more people joining ml, and freebies competition is high..its hard to get open challenge..if 3 minutes still not enough, maybe can make it up to 5 minutes? lol

As there will be a limited number of nations here, due to having a lot of very small ones, it is likely that everyone will have the option to play in a big international league still. But , no, I won't be tricked into answering questions

By : krakraGreat updates   12:02 20/03 2007
pictureI like them all, especially the open challenges, will give us with a crappy connection a chance and keep people from hogging up all the freebies

By : LineThis sounds great.   12:16 20/03 2007
pictureI am realy looking forward for a national league. I just hope there will also be something like a "champions league" at same time, so we all can know who is all over the best team in managerleague.com.
Good luck on your future work

By : webvictimCool   15:19 20/03 2007
pictureThe season change is sounding good as always, Spinner! The new leagues sound like they will be good fun when they come in, and the open challenge rule should make things a lot fairer for people.

Now then, about that Q78 youth you promised me...

By : Gago1nice   15:41 20/03 2007
picturegreat job spinner!

By : eggYour own heading...   16:53 20/03 2007
picturedon't like idea of 3 minutes wait thing, surely it means everyone is just gonna have to spend longer refreshing and hoping.. will wait to see if it works... else someone made a very good queuing suggestion a few season back which i think would work great and be very fair

don't like leagues split suggestion... like playing against everyone, i guess as the game gets bigger it becomes more logical but i guess we'll see how it happens and works and gets implemented....

do like your note about UTF-8... has given me an idea about how to solve a problem i have at work... thanks

By : eggca2   13:24 21/03 2007

By : Apulianational league   14:25 21/03 2007
pictureI think ML is big even for its international league & competition.
there are just too other national-leagued online soccer games... but I like ML instead!

By : IngusFantastic!   02:10 22/03 2007
pictureI'm thrilled!

Love every new feature! But hope that we can choose what national league to join. I'm norwegian, but my team is english, if you know what I mean.

And with all the coming features, I sure hope we get to keep our team. (Don't mean to bring up the reset issue again. But it's a nightmare of mine, and the worst thing that could ever happen to me. In real footylife we cannot erase the history, but we can learn from it. AND SOME CAN EVEN BE PROUD OF IT!)

Yours
Ingus
