Bad news for cheaters! <--Back
pic

To be able to maintain a fair game here at ManagerLeague, a change has been made to our user-agreement. To most of you, this will mean absolutely nothing. It only matters if you are caught cheating, or your team is deleted for other reasons. The change is that you now also lose your unspent credits in the process.

This is really something we should have done a long time ago, specially in the cases where people sign up lots of fake accounts and then delete them. So far we have deleted their teams but they have kept the credits, which is not fair.

So, the following point has been added to the user-agreement.

12: If your team is removed from the game for inactivity or violation of these rules, all unspent credits will be removed instantly.

This may seem harsh, but we are fair, and if your team is ever accused of foul play, you always get plenty of time to respond and communicate with us through support.

If this change in the rules means less attempts of cheating, everybody wins.

Every team will get a message about this in the game too, to make sure everyone reads it and knows about it.

The user-agreement can be found here, as always.

For a fair and fun game!

pictureThe ruling goes against trading law. It will be deemed void in court.

Free "credits" can be removed, but as far as real money payments are concerned, the customer is entitled to a refund if you refuse to provide the service.

pictureHeroes: Alas, you are wrong.

If the person violates the terms of usage, which they must agree to when signing up to the game, then they automatically lose any rights to services, regardless of whether they have paid for them or not. Cheating is a violation of the terms of service, and if people cheat then they stand to lose everything inside the game that is associated with them and their IP address.

Basically - if you don't want to lose your credits, don't cheat. Cheating is for losers. Losers lose credits

Actually, no it does not.
Had we sold a physical item, you would be correct, but we sell a virutal content-token, and that is different.

Let me try to explain:
When you pay for credits, you get them transfered to your account.
You have the right to use these as you see fit.
But, as the credits exist only as a number in our database, and can never be changed back into money, it is actually our property.
I'll quote the agreement here again, sections 2, 3 and 8:

2: FS owns all data stored on their server(s) and may, at any time, change or delete any such data.

3: User is responsible for any and all actions committed through Users' account, and may not use provoking language, provoking names or bother other players through means of messages or forums or other forms of communication. Any kind of spam and repeated messaging is a violation of this agreement. What is considered foul or provoking is at the sole discretion of FS, FS' staff, or the volunteers selected to handle such work. In certain parts of ManagerLeague or other affiliated websites under the ML-website, User may upload pictures or other content. If any content is uploaded that FS deems unsuitable for any other user, the responsible account will be closed and deleted immediately.

8: Manager acknowledges that any funds are non-refundable, in example, but not limited to, any purchased and unused credits.

In addidtion, any legal complaint must be brought before Byretten in Oslo, no other laws of other regions are valid regarding data on our servers.

9: Any legal complaints will be settled in the Byretten in Oslo, Norway.

Agreeably, one can argue whether this user agreement is a legally valid and binding document, as we have no guarantee the user is 18, whether he is under influence, and indeed whether he is who he says he is at all. But any lawyer in Norway will tell you this is "good enough" because the rules are fair and serve the users of the service, and fall into the "good intensions" group. They are there to protect users of the service, and only to protect them.

pictureSince we are getting right down to it:

Keep in mind that the user can keep playing ManagerLeague. So we do not refuse to provide the service. We have just altered some data that belongs to us.

And I think you got the wrong idea here. This is not about wanting to refund or not, this is ethically sensible as the ethics has been violated by the "customer" already.

You're not authenticating the posts, only the message listings. If you're having difficulty working out how to pass your sessions across a POST request, bear in mind that a POST can be combined with a GET.

I have made these articles readable even if you are not logged in, but I had indeed forgotten to deal with accepting the comments.

Password encryption is probably a good idea though, I'll see what I can do about it.
