New update from ManagerLeague HQ <--Back
pic
As many of you know, we have been working hard towards implementing a brand new feature in ManagerLeague.
This is known as "Staff", extra personell you can hire to help take good care of your team.
We can now reveal some of the details here.

It has taken it's time, but it is getting ready. The Staff-section is falling nicely into place, and when it is launched next season, it will have its own place under the Economy-heading.
In this section you can
- See your staff
- Search for staff (based on type and quality)
- Hire staff
- Fire staff
- Renew staff contracts

The different types you can hire are:
- Coaches (which can be either GK, DEF, MID or ATT)
- Physios
- Scouts
- Caretakers

Naturally, they have very different tasks, but they all serve a purpose.

Coaches help with getting more from your training, and the higher the Quality, the better help they can provide. A GK-Coach can and will only help with the training of GKs, and so on. It is no problem to get by without a coach, and the difference between a Very Good one and an Excellent one is not very big.
Please note that coaches do not help with socalled "match-training", only during normal training and training-camps.

A Physio can help you avoid injuries, by assisting players in training, and during matches.

A Scout will, when asked, report special players he has found, that show a remarkable potential. The scout has the benefit of "seeing" some of the hidden stats of players, and can thus advice you to buy the "right stuff". A scout can only be used now and then, and with certain restrictions.

A Caretaker has a very different job. He will help you maintain your stadium to avoid sudden problems with stadium-upgrades or even outright decay and destruction.
This means there are certain new possibilities in the game, and you can actually lose stadium upgrades over time due to decay, wear and tear. The details here are not quite set in stone, so there are no more details available.

Taking on staff costs money of course (ingame money, that is, not real money), and a staff-member will require a higher salary from a high-division team than from a low-division team (greedy bastards, I know!).
They will want to sign contracts that are valid for 3 season to begin with, but as they grow older, they might prefer shorter contracts.
The higher the quality of the staff-member, the more he wants paid of course.
There are 6 different quality-levels, ranging from poor to excellent. Of course, there is a difference between these, but it might not be huge

New available staff is created every training-tick, but not everyone can get all Excellent staff from the beginning, so I guess there will be a bit of race.

Staff is a completly credit-free feature, to be enjoyed by everyone, credits or not.

There are a number of other changes for next season as well, but Staff is the main thing.
Training-camps have been changed quite a bit, some bugs have been fixed, a ton of CSS issues have been resolved, and some design-issues have been dealt with. More than enough to keep a man busy for quite a while

I am looking forward to reveal all the details when next season comes, but for now, this will have to do. I hope you look forward to this as much as I do

Until next update!

By : gixExciting news with a stroke of worry   00:50 10/04 2006
picturea)

About stadium changes: "(...)This means there are certain new possibilities in the game, and you can actually lose stadium upgrades over time due to decay, wear and tear.(...)"

- I've been waiting for something like this, I think it's a very important factor to avvoid many managers to max out everything on the stadium, and this will make the game last longer (forever?)

b)

"A Scout will, when asked, report special players he has found, that show a remarkable potential. The scout has the benefit of "seeing" some of the hidden stats of players, and can thus advice you to buy the "right stuff". A scout can only be used now and then, and with certain restrictions."

- This seems like a good update, but I'm a bit worried that it won't work out that well. We'll all know that the best teams will, in general, have the best staff, and since all bids are open people would react if there's a strange bid from a big shot manager, and potentially try to "steal" the player. I think this update would work much better with another transfer system. I'm sorry this is not constructive critisism as I'm not sure how this problem could be solved, it's not possible to not have some kind of rules about how fast a transfer could go through... but with todays system the big fish managers can pick players as they want. And if a manager with limited resources uses lots of time and effort to find a talent, browsing teams, lists etc, some other manager could just overbid and steal the fruits of their labors.

My main worry in the big picture is that it will become too "easy" to be a good manager, it won't take as much brains, just a lot of time and some money. There should be as many as possible factors where skills and smartness separates good and not-so-good managers.

It would be great to get some feedback from an admin on this

By : SpinnerAn answer to gix   05:01 10/04 2006
pictureHeya! Nice comment!

I'm not sure I see why the best teams will have the "best staff". It is no easier for them to get top-notch staff than any other teams, because the cost of the top-staff depends on your division. And so, top-notch staff is available to anyone.
I do admit that top-teams are more likely to be able to afford it, but they will have to pay for it.
After a while though, I think most teams will have top-notch staff, not just the best teams, but every team that has a few seasons behind it.

Also, it is not quite right about the "top teams" being able to buy every player they want. ML is simply too big, and even the Top Teams can only have a max of 30 players. To have a good and stable teams Top Team, you need at least 20 top-notch players at any given time, so you can swap out injured players without suffering too much, and thus they have a max of 10 slots for "other purchases".

With the 600.000 players in the database, there is simply too many to keep track of, and I do mean that, regardless of how much time or effort you put into the game. You simply can't keep an eye on a fraction of them.

Indeed, they can outbid smaller teams, but the tax-model has been getting harder and harder for the rich teams for a good while now. And it costs a lot of money to keep those 1.st division players happy. You might think it is easy going break-even in the top div, but I can assure you, it is not

However, not completely blind to your point, the scouts are not meant to be used more than once or twice per season. Any it is no harder overbidding someone who used a scout than someone who spent a lot of time and effort finding the same player by keeping a close eye on him

By : mamalooYour own heading...   05:04 10/04 2006
picturecan you tell us the price for the staff that way even us the poor team can manage to hire good coaches

By : SpinnerAs for making it too easy...   05:05 10/04 2006
pictureAs far as I can tell, the scout does not make it "easier" as such, but it can save you a lot of time. Time is, to most people, something we have a limited amount of, and something we try to "save" every now and then. The arrow-buttons on the Tables page make it a lot easier to browse the divisions, but it would be horribly inconvenient if they were gone

I see what you mean though, but right now, I do not feel it is wise to increase the gap between the "not so good" players and the "best players". There is a ton of difference here already, and by adding more complexity to the game, I think we're ok if 1 feature can save us some time in return.

By : SpinnerCost   05:11 10/04 2006
pictureI'd like to wait with the costs until I am sure the price is "right" and set in stone.
This is still being tested and evaulated, so presenting it here would be asking for trouble when we change it later

By : gixYour own heading...   14:55 10/04 2006
pictureThanks for the answers Spinner, but I still think you underestimate the top teams' ability to snatch talents.. This is build on my own and a couple of friends' experiences only, so it's not representative for everyone of course. But I like what you said about the staff, that it won't be harder to hire them in lowers divisions because of planned salaries down the tables etc. And that you can't use the scouts too often.

Peace out Banana

By : ApuliaI like staff   15:59 10/04 2006
picturebut I don't like auctions way to buy players and next staff-member.
I think it may be honest to limit buying/selling at fixed round time dalay.
e.g. when you buy a player / staff-member, you have to wait 5 round to take new auction bid.

By : Mr_GlennWell done Spinner   16:21 10/04 2006
pictureSee you have taken my comments on board about stadium wear and tear!! If you didn't see my post a while back then great minds must think a like

I see peoples point about the top teams having an advantage but i kind of like the challenge that way, bit like real life really.

By : SpinnerApulia   16:55 10/04 2006
pictureYou do not hire Staff and Players the same way. There are no "bids" on Staff, you hire them, and they're yours until their contract expires, unless you renew the contract. No other team can interfere.

There will be a benefit to the ACTIVE players who sit and wait for the new staff to be generated every tick, but this is no advantage to the rich teams, just to the active ones.

By : SpinnerYes Mr_Glenn   16:57 10/04 2006
pictureWear and tear on the stadiums were partly an old idea and partly based on user-input such as yours.
So a big thank you to you, and to the others sharing their ideas to help us make ManagerLeague the best online football manager on the net

By : Badaboomstadiums   17:31 10/04 2006
pictureI`m a bit worried about the "wear and tear" thing. Stadiums are already expensive to upgrade for most of us (even compared to real life stadiums) and take a very long time to build as it is. But i guess we just have to wait for the update and see.

By : The Crowkiller upgrade   18:49 10/04 2006
picturelooks very nice.
and a very good thing is that this coach thing can give the none credits teams a advantage

By : HowieCool   11:31 11/04 2006
pictureI hate it. Not really wanted to be different, very interesting, I will be looking to hear more on the wear and tear

By : MrBlackgix   16:03 11/04 2006
picture"The top teams ablity to snatch talents" -> maybe thats why they are top teams...because the managers are quicker on the button and have more time to spend on the game.

Its not just because they are top teams that automatically makes them able to get all the good youths. They get all the good youths and that makes them a top team. Any team can do it if they have 15mill and hang around at training time...

picturethe updates, not the idea underneath. 500.000 is what you make each friendliy. Dont think a credit would ever be that cheap, more like 1,5 mill

yeh nice but i dont like the design.

Care to shed some light on what you mean? Click on my nickname and send me a message, if you don't want to do it in public I'm always on the lookout for ideas on improved design !

By : Marco RotaPrices   15:11 14/04 2006
picturehow much?? 500.000 per? 1.000.000? 5.000.000? 10.000.000?

By : HeroesYour own heading...   04:01 16/04 2006
picture>Click on my nickname and send me a message, if you don't want to do it in public

Nah, do it in public Rappy.

There's nothing quite like Spinner trying to dig his way out of a hole in public

For the record. I think the design is atrocious too, but it isn't functionaly deficient (assuming you have Javascript error alerts turned off) and improvements to the game are more important.

By : The_Boss_ManQuestion ?   07:17 16/04 2006
pictureWill there be an upgrade section, similar to the stadium, where you can hire better staff, with a higher wage bill or somethig like that ?

By : HeroesHow much will coaches cost?   14:17 16/04 2006
pictureSpinner, is there any chance you could let us know how much these coaches are going to cost? Are we going to be needing to do some fundraising before next season?

By : gixMr_Black   18:50 16/04 2006
pictureI don't think that are qualities that should decide wheter you're a good manager or not, of course those have to be there, but I'm hoping other manager-skills would decide in the bitter end.

pictureYour comment here please!

By : lardyCoaches   14:52 18/04 2006
pictureFystor asks the question will we be training coaches etc. Which is a good point.
Will a poor coach eventually become excellent in much the same way as a player increases (or decreases!!) Q? If they do get better or worse, what determines that change?
Being able to send them on coaching courses at the ML accademy would certainly make use of more ingame money. The higher the league, the more expensive it could be.

pictureAnyone canget them at the start, it is a round by round charge, you dont buy them or have a bidding war on them. Anyone with a 15k stadium can make enough to support a decent backing staff

By : nunes88New Season   10:06 19/04 2006
pictureGood upgrades, but when will the new season starts?

By : Conja Summerlinawesome!   21:17 19/04 2006
pictureI still would like to know if there's training options.

this really opens up opportunities for different levels of play.

i would like to see it easier to buy players from clubs and get people to buy my players. maybe by making it harder to find clubless players.

third thing, I would like the printing to be bigger on the page and adjustable. Even if I put it on LARGE, it's still the same size on I.E.
